August 7 – Waterwalk Film – 7:30 p.m.

June 7, 2013 by Dogwood

waterwalklogo2Waterwalk, the award winning father/son bonding picture shot on location in Newaygo and Muskegon counties is the perfect summer film. Shown during the week of U.S. Canoe Association Canoe and Kayak Nationals on the Muskegon River, this must see film tells the story of Steve and Justin Faulker’s attempt to become the first team to paddle the Marquette/Joliet discovery route of the Mississippi. Join producer Roger Rapoport and officials from the nationals for a behind the scenes look at this remarkable story filmed on the same river that is the heart of the exciting marathon championships.
Filmed in western and northern Michigan, along Lake Michigan, Green Bay, the Fox, Wisconsin and Mississippi Rivers, Waterwalk is the story of a suddenly unemployed workaholic dad who takes a dangerous 1,000 canoe trip with the Asian American adopted son he barely knows. Featuring Robert Cicchini (Godfather III, War of the Worlds, The Sopranos and Mentalist) and Chase Maser, the film has been hailed by critics as “heartfelt, touching, and real”. Cinematographer Bruce Schermer shot Sundance Grand Prize Winning Chameleon Street. Don’t miss the preshow talk that offers facinating insights on the Marquette/Joliet story, the Faulkners Odyssey and the big Muskegon River race.
Waterwalk has been “family approved” by the Dove Foundation and is rated PG. For more information and to view the trailer click here: www.waterwalkthemovie.com

Satellite Collective is a vibrant young group of international artists, choreographers and composers with studios in Fremont and New York City.  Their performances are noted for high energy and a strong emotional engagement with their audience.

They will be performing in their fourth season at the Dogwood Center on August 2 (7:30 p.m.) and August 3 (3:00 p.m.) with a program of dance, original music and multimedia.

This year the featured choreographers are from Juilliard and the Paris Conservatory, and for the first time, the Collective will be working with Bill Ryan, Director of the New Music Program at Grand Valley State University.  The audience will be treated to original new music compositions for cello and quintet, two cutting edge modern dance pieces with original electronic music and multimedia, and a new short film, scored by New York composer Ellis Ludwig-Leone and directed by Lora Robertson, 2012 Art Prize Jury Finalist.  Every piece is a world premiere!  The Satellite Collective will be premiering this entirely new program in preparation for their Autumn performance at the Baryshnikov Arts Center in New York.

The members of Satellite Collective believe artists from numerous fields can help each other produce amazing work and build on each other’s practices.  Since 2010, the group has produced new works and debuted them at the Dogwood Center.  Their contemporary, original works are cutting edge and interesting.  Plan on joining us on Friday, August 2 at 7:30 p.m. or Saturday, August 3 at 3:00 p.m.!
